Rapunzel : A Tangled Tale

i have not enjoyed a single Disney animated film since The Little Mermaid. it did set the bar high after all and the ones that follow fell short. don't get me wrong, they're not bad. they're just not as good.

Rapunzel however, blew me away. the soundtrack was amazing. the colors are brilliant and the dialogues are hilarious. of course i am biased as Flynn Rider's voice was that of Zach Levi. it doesn't matter that the entire movie felt like hearing Chuck rant. no. it doesn't matter. at all.

if the first one brought us tears and was a little heavy on the heart albeit the happy ending, the sequel will make the sides of your tummy and jaw hurt. it.was.funny! hilarious i must say.

from liza minelli singing Single Ladies to Samantha having hot flashes to abdul the gay butler, SATC2 proved to be the better movie. i loved loved loved it!

oh, and i wouldn't mind watching it again...and again...and again.

fast & furious, coolest film ever!

cool enough that even before the opening credits rolled, 5 minutes into the film, i got my money's worth.

Love and Other Disasters

a surprisingly nice film. it's a story about love and all the crazy happy ridiculous things that come along with it.

the movie revolved around Jacks (played by Brittany Murphy) and her crazy friends both gay and straight.

here are some lines which i thought are worth quoting:

Emily 'Jacks' Jackson: "I'm not so sure. Love isn't always a lightning bolt, you know? Maybe sometimes it's just a choice."

"I don't know that Paolo's the love of my life, but I've decided to give him the chance to be. Maybe true love is a decision. You know, a decision to take a chance with somebody. To give to somebody. Without worrying wether they'll give anything back. Or if they're gonna hurt you, or if they really are the one. Maybe love isn't something that happens to you. Maybe it's something you have to choose."

this day, 3 years ago

so i slipped. i have just finished watching Titanic on HBO and darn it! much as i hate getting all cheesy and soft, i couldn't help it.

this day marks 3 years since the end of the worst relationship of my life my last break-up and i have not been in any relationship since. call it a lull, or a dry spell or the effects of getting bruised and battered over and over. call it whatever which way you want but it will only boil to one thing and one question alone. when is this lull going to end?

i mean, come on! it's been 3 effin years! what's up with the stall? seriously.

i am in no rush in any way but once in a while (read: after serious exposure to cheesy mush) i tend to bend and get a wee bit affected.

but, i'm calm now. i just needed to vent and now that i have, i shall get back to my normal bitchy self.

Nights in Rodanthe

a second chance at love which proved yet again that age has nothing to do with finding it

richard gere still has it. gray hair and all, he still makes us ladies shriek like girls as he did with Pretty Woman.

diane lane, as with her roles in Must Love Dogs and Under the Tuscan Sun, has proven to be the epitome of a hopeful romantic. never giving up on love no matter how many times her heart has been broken.

nicholas sparks stayed true to what he does best, romantic tragedies which, after making you go "awww" with the plot, makes you go "WTF" in the end.

the beach house was awesome. i want one like that. or at least go away on a weekend or something to a place like that. minus the hurricane of course.

i'm glad i haven't read the book as it would've spoiled everything.

the only thing i hate about my Nights in Rodanthe experience was this gassy guy, three seats to my left who chose to burp with all his friggin might in almost all the really wonderful scenes.

Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2

next to Sex and the City, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants 2 comes in a close second for the best chick flick of the year (well at least for me).

i. loved. it.

the cast. Greece. the plot. Greece. the men. oooh the men. did i say Greece? suffice to say that after the film, we all wanted to go there. someday. maybe. hopefully.

unlike the prequel, part two is much lighter and happier with a whole lot of kababawan that would make the mush haters grimace in pain. needless to say that you ladies might wanna let the guys sit this one out as i'm afraid they will not appreciate this at all.

Mama Mia!

based on the musical of the same title, Mama Mia! which stars Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried is just what i needed after a bad week at work.

who would've thought that the devil who wore Prada could sing and dance to tunes popularized by 80's singing group, ABBA or that James Bond would agree to wear spandex. really. it was extremely entertaining.

the music was fun, the actors were great and the view of Greece was simply breathtaking.

a musical comedy like no other, Mama Mia! will make surely make your gloomy day a bit brighter and will definitely turn your frown to lots and lots of laughter.

yes, dearies, my sweet cousin wasn't kdding when he sent me that message. the modelling agency he's currently working for is lookin for someone with fab flabs like mine for a print ad.

their agency is right next to my building so my cousin asked to see me for a round of smokes downstairs. the agents were there, took one look at me and asked me to go on a go-see come Monday.

me, on a go-see. wearing a tank top. striking a pose. for 150,000 pesos.

the thought gave me chills. not the good kind of chills believe me. the kind that makes my stomach turn and i only have two days to think about it.

night out with the ladies

finally watched Sex and the City. it was FABULOUS!

from the cast, to the clothes, to the shoes, bags and a whole lot of funny bits in between, i say, it was the best chick flick i've seen EVER! i may not have agreed with Carrie's decision to marry Big in the end but still, i loved every minute of the film. it was predictable, yes. but who cares? the ladies are simply fab.

more than a love story, it was, as it has always been, a story of friendship tried and tested through a series of failed and happy relationships and the fabulous wardrobe that goes with it.

The music was brilliant. The fusion of classic and rock was simply awesome.

it pays to wait

i finally got to watch The Notebook. i know it's been long overdue but what can i do? i loved the book so much that when the movie version was shown, for fear of being disappointed yet again, i refused to watch it. it was the best love story ever told and i didn't want some money hungry movie maker ruin it for me.

last night, however, as i was going through my DVDs, i chanced upon a copy. i figured, since i've read the book ages ago, it will not have that much of an impact if the movie sucked.

so i watched.

and it was beautiful.

by the end of the film, i was sobbing like a baby. really, i was. it has nothing to do with the way the movie was done or how noah and allie's story was presented. it was the story itself and the words that the writers used. it was perfect. even the ending, though completely different from the way Nicholas Sparks ended his book, was perfect.

to the pessimists and jaded, a love like that doesn't exist still, there are those who continue to believe that it does.

i choose to be the latter. it gives me something wonderful to look forward to. that no matter how long it takes me, i'm gonna have my turn again someday.

P.S. I Love You, the verdict

watched the film.

can't say i loved it. at least not as much as i did the book.

the plot, though similar - dead husband helps grieving wife go on with her life by sending her letters long after he died. wife is stubborn at first but with the help of friends and family, she was able to come around and realize that the world really doesn't stop while she grieves - unfortunately, is far from how Cecelia Ahern wrote it.

a lot of characters were not included including holly's family which played a huge part in the book. instead, they added a new character, william, which i think is a pretty desperate attempt at spicing up the story. though, i must admit, seeing Jeffrey Dean Morgan's tush is an added bonus *wink*.

there were, however, scenes where one would shed a tear or two. mostly when a letter is opened. or when gerry looks at holly or talks to her.

the cast, with the exception of Gerard Butler, was forgettable. yes, even eye-candy JD Morgan was a slight disappointment. his Irish accent was weird and his discomfort in speaking such was obvious. he did sing well though and played the guitar like a rockstar.

it is a feel good movie that i wouldn't mind watching on DVD and for those who have yet to read the book, it's best to watch the movie first. you'd appreciate it more.

as they say, disappointments come when expectations are high.

i'm not keeping my hopes up since most books are better than their movie versions.

one thing's for sure though. i wouldn't mind seeing jeffrey dean morgan in the big screen.

and so the countdown begins! Sex and the City : The Movie is scheduled to be released sometime in May 2008.

earlier rumors about Chris Noth aka Mr. Big not being in the cast proved to be wrong and i can't help but give a lil squeal. he is, after all, the main man of the show.

the ladies are back. fiercer and more fabulous than ever. if the movie is anything like the series, i'm sure it's gonna be a hit.

oooohhhh i can't wait!!!!

Sex and the City

lo and behold! the ladies are back!

and they're off to the big screen!

finally, a movie about my all time fave gals is in the making.

way too cool a film to miss

in the age where entertainment options are unlimited, this movie kinda made growin up in the 80's not so bad. yes, i belong to a generation limited to what afternoon television offered in local channels. tv choices were few so i grew up watching every kid my age was watching.

that being said, TRANSFORMERS is way too cool a film to miss. seeing Optimus Prime beat the crap out of Megatron in 3D left everyone in awe. people were clapping. i did too. baduy na kung baduy!

the graphics were good. the story was simple - earth in danger from the Decepticons wanting the All Spark and the Autobots came to the rescue, with the help of course, of a teenage boy named Sam. there was humor in most scenes which i didn't mind but other hard core fanatics might find repulsive (doubt it though). however, not all robot characters were given enough exposure besides Optimus Prime, Megatron and Bumblebee.

bottomline, it's a film that people SHOULD see in theaters and not one of those which you can pass for a DVD copy.

and, while it's not Oscar material, it was simply brilliant.

Because I Said So

In a desperate attempt te ensure that her youngest daughter doesn't end up like her, Daphne Wilder (Diane Keaton) decided to search for the perfect man for her.

But when Milly (Mandy Moore) found out that the Jason (Tom Everett Scott) and Johnny (Gabriel Macht) both came out of the personal ad that her mom made, she finally had to say something.

Because I Said So is a story of a mother's love that tries to answer questions like "Where does it begin and where does it end?". It is a film both the young and the old can appreciate. A mix of comedy and romance plus a heavy dose of reality sure make this film worth watching.

And yes, it may help one to understand why moms are the way they are sometimes.
