best all girl vacation ever

*click on the image to enlarge
my weekend at Punta de Uian was the best fun i've had in a long time and although the resort is quite far, it was very well worth it.

the beach was clean, the food was great EXCELLENT (see photos on the left), the staff was very efficient (props to Harvey and Jonathan and manong boatman who made sure we got to Capones Island and back safe and in one piece)

the best part probably is the sense of quiet and calm. which, at the end of each drinking session turned into a male bashing discussion hahaha! literature in hand being, "I Used to Miss Him But My Aim is Improving" and "The Bad Girls Guide to Getting What You Want. no, we don't hate men. in fact, we love them. we just didn't like who we had. seriously.

anyway, i had a blast with des and april and we will definitely do it again. soon. really really soon.

it pays to wait

The Notebook i finally got to watch The Notebook. i know it's been long overdue but what can i do? i loved the book so much that when the movie version was shown, for fear of being disappointed yet again, i refused to watch it. it was the best love story ever told and i didn't want some money hungry movie maker ruin it for me.

last night, however, as i was going through my DVDs, i chanced upon a copy. i figured, since i've read the book ages ago, it will not have that much of an impact if the movie sucked.

so i watched.

and it was beautiful.

by the end of the film, i was sobbing like a baby. really, i was. it has nothing to do with the way the movie was done or how noah and allie's story was presented. it was the story itself and the words that the writers used. it was perfect. even the ending, though completely different from the way Nicholas Sparks ended his book, was perfect.

to the pessimists and jaded, a love like that doesn't exist still, there are those who continue to believe that it does.

i choose to be the latter. it gives me something wonderful to look forward to. that no matter how long it takes me, i'm gonna have my turn again someday.

Repertory's Tuesdays with Morrie

a few years back, my college bestfriend Anele's older brother was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) - the same illness that Morrie Schwartz has in Tuesdays with Morrie. i read the book and i cried buckets.

shortly after, i chanced upon the the tv adaptation in Hallmark. I've always loved Jack Lemmon and his portrayal of Morrie was exceptional. yes, i cried even harder.

last saturday, i had the privilege of watching Repertory Philippines' take on the best-selling book as it was staged on Greenbelt 1.
the cast only had the 2 main characters : Bart Guingona as Mitch Albom and Jose Mari Avellana as Morrie. the set could not have been any simpler - a couch and a table on one end, a hospital bed in the center, a cofee table under a Japanese maple tree on the right. there were no costume or set changes. it was just Mitch and Morrie from start to finish and it was beautiful.

halfway through, people started sniffing and as the intensity of the scenes increased, so did the sniffs. it was one of those where people's emotions are caught even long after the curtain closed.

towards the end, a long standing ovation was imperative.

all praises go to both actors and the Repertory for staging such a wonderful production.
"don't let go too soon, but don't hang on too long" - Morrie Schwartz

P.S. I Love You

i've read the book.

loved it.

time to see the film.

i'm not keeping my hopes up since most books are better than their movie versions.

one thing's for sure though. i wouldn't mind seeing jeffrey dean morgan in the big screen.

men...the need (or not) of them

here's what the quiz had to say...

You Don't Need a Man ... or Want One!
Generally, you're very happy being a single woman. And anyone who has a problem with that... well, that's there problem. Not that you wouldn't share your life with the almost perfect guy. You simply won't settle though. Your life is too good to share with some substandard man!

talk about self-prophecy! incidentally, i started reading Sexy, Sassy, Singularly Happy: The Savvy Girl’s Guide to Enjoying the Single Life. hahahaha!

hey don't get me wrong. i'm not brushing off men! i just wanna make sure that the next one doesn't turn out to be an ass like the last one.
