off to Singapore for some RnR

my 3 wks here in Jakarta is up. can't say i won't miss it. not saying i want to stay. suffice to say that it's been a pleasure being here. sans the bombing incidents and the uber crazy motorists that is.

the project we implemented was a success. there were a few kinks along the way as expected but it all ended pretty well.

tomorrow, i'm off for a few days of RnR in Singapore. time to party and have me some Singapore sling baby!

manila-sg-jakarta-sg-manila-camsur-manila

i have been on six different airplanes for the last 3 wks. to say i'm exhausted is an understatement. to say i didn't have fun is a complete and utter lie.

after coming home from jakarta last thursday, i barely had the time to unpack because i had to pack another set of clothes. this time, for my Camsur trip the following day.

the CWC trip was long planned and i almost didn't make it. if the jakarta trip didn't go on schedule, i would've missed the fun that is CWC.

no, i didn't do the wakeboard thingy. yes, i'm such a loser.

i did however get got myself a spankin tattoo. yes, it's henna. hahaha!
we stayed in one of the trailers which was ok albeit the not so squeaky clean shower room. most of our days were spent in the cabanas anyway where we ate and drank and ate and drank to our belly's content.

okay, maybe next time, i will try the cables. maybe.

and so the shopping bug bit

pretty hard if i may add.

heavy rains didn't stop me. the traffic didn't stop me. not even the flock of people along Orchard Road.
i. went. shopping.

the damage: 3 pairs of shoes from Charles & Keith; 10 shirts from Giordano; Baby stuff from IKEA; more baby stuff from Takashimaya; belgian chocolates from Paragon; some more chocolates from Carrefour.

now i'm broke. what i didn't spend in Jakarta, i spent here. even more than the limit i set. damn you Singapore! hahahahha!

tomorrow, i'm heading home and i can't wait.

missing miguel

B.A.D.L.Y

it's not even a week yet and i miss my nephew terribly. argh!

it's been raining since i got here and there's nothing much to do. i slept the whole day yesterday and only met up with friends tonight. had my Singapore Sling fix at Clark Quay.

tomorrow i'm hitting the malls. there's a baby fair in Takashimaya and i am so gonna buy miguel stuff. lots of them hehehe! good thing i missed the toy fair, otherwise i'll be spending more. there goes my per diem!

i'm off to bed now. goodnight Singapore. hopefully, it doesn't rain tomorrow.

buhbye Jakarta, hello Singapore

the IT review in Jakarta went well. all my previous freakout episodes were all but that, freakouts.

in fact, my wishful thought was granted. i. think. they. liked. me. hahaha! well at least i liked them and every jitter i had disappeared as soon as we got there.

Jakarta was nice way better than i expected. minus the terrible traffic and the ridiculous, can-give-you-a-heart-attack way people drove. it. was. scary.

other than that, i loved it there. loved it enough that i wouldn't mind if the office sends me back next year.

and, after eating all the satays and nasi goreng i could eat, i am now in Singapore where i will get drunk, eat chili crabs and maybe even try their chicken rice since i refused to try it the last time i was here (i don't like boiled chicken hehe).

Singapore Sling, here i come!

from a much needed break

and might i add, a WELL deserved one at that.

yes people, i was a bum for two weeks and it felt wonderful!

Singapore was everything i thought it was and more - clean. organized. alive. rich in culture. from the people to the busses and trains, to food and shopping malls, to the zoos and all the other tourist spots, a trip to the city of fines is definitely a must have for all ye travel freaks.

ten things why i loved my trip:
1. the public transport
i HATE commuting but there, it was a breeze -convenient and practical. plus, you get to go from one end of the city to the other with just one train ride. and if you have to take a cab, the drivers are ALWAYS pleasant.

2. the malls
for someone who doesn't like shopping as much as most women, i did have lots of good finds. from DAISO (2dollar store) in Jurong East to the classy Takeshimaya at the Orchard, one is sure to find something that would dazzle the eyes.

3. tourist spots, animal attractions and nature trip
walking isn't my thing but i didn't mind. the view made it all worthwhile. I feasted my eyes at the Magical fountains, took the cable car and skyride at Sentosa; was awed by the dolphins and other marine life at the Underwater World; got to see and feed the birds at Jurong Bird Park; went up close and personal with the elephants and orangs at the Singapore Zoo; saw the majestic Chawang and other creatures of the night at the Night Safari; had my first encounter with a carnivorous plant at the Botanic Garden; enriched my mind at the Science Center and got to experience how it felt at -8degrees at Snow City

4. the food
hawkers galore! from bakwa to chicken rice to pork floss to ice cream wrapped in wafer and lots and lots of noodles! yum yum yum!

5. the long walks even at 1AM
yup you read it right. 1am and i never felt safer.

6. the night life
The Esplanade, Clark Quay, Chinatown and the Orchard come alive the moment the sun sets. whatever suits your mood - have dinner and cocktails by the river or indulge your palette at Glutton's Bay or feast your eyes along the streets for midnight sales or dance the night away with a glass of the famous Singapore sling at bay and you're sure to party up to the wee hours

7. the discipline; the system
and i don't mean the kind where you practice only when someone is lookin! one that is practiced by all.
8. their love for nature and clean environment
there is very minimal, if not, non-existent trash; the drainage works; the air is fresh and they even have a PSI level flashed on TV to indicate the level of pollution at any given time!

9. the language
everyone speaks English which made it easier to ask for directions - a must when you find yourself lost in the middle of the city or when tryin to get a bargain

10. lastly, the people
from the guards to the sales assistants to the drivers to the cashiers to the gatekeepers, everyone was so nice. they won't think twice when you need to help. one even walked 5 blocks with us at 1 am just to make sure that we got home safe.

all in all, i give my Singapore adventure a 9 and i wouldn't mind goin' back :)
